In a recent report the B.C. government allows the City of Cranbrook in British Columbia to be the first city in this province to cull urban deer. According to a story in Ottawa Citizen the Harper government has “thrown a wrench into negotiations toward a United Nations arms trade treaty”. The “wrench” is that Canada opposes the inclusion of hunting, sports rifles and related ammunition from the inclusion of the UN’s proposal of a strict international gun control law, camouflaged as the Arms Trade Treaty. Walter "Lone Wolf" Bond, 35, pleaded guilty last week to federal charges of arson and violence involving animal enterprises. On July 29, 2010 I reported about an insane state law requiring anyone buying or otherwise receiving a crossbow in North Carolina to have either a pistol permit from their local sheriff's office or a concealed handgun permit. A bill has now been signed into law removing that requirement.

Dough Walker, founder and publisher of the National Bowhunting Magazine died on Saturday, January 29. 2011, following a brief illness.

Doug (age 80) died at the Community Reginal Medical Center in Frenso, California, after a week long bout of pneumonia, said his son Scott Walker.

I received good news from Carol Otway, the widow of the legendary conservationist Bill Otway who sadly passed away on October 17, 2010.

My good friend Bill is awarded the distinct honour of being inducted into the Canadian Anglers Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held on February 18, 2011 at the Toronto Boat Show.

I am deeply touched by this. I live in cattle country and coyotes are everywhere. You can hear them howl and sing all day and all night. Ranchers hate coyotes, especially in the springtime when the calves are born. I’ve heard horror stories of coyotes circling a cow giving birth and the moment the calf’s head shows up they rush in for the kill. The above is a question I am asked quite often by parents who wish to introduce their children to hunting. The answer is not cut and dried. In my opinion the introduction of a child to hunting is dependent on the child’s maturity, which is not necessary measured by age.

Where has the time gone so quickly? It seems I just purchased my hunting license and species tags last week and now the 2010 hunting season is already part of history.

In an Associated Press article by Todd Richmond, I read that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimated that hunting license sales in 33 states have declined. There is considerable concern that if this ongoing trend keeps up hunting as we know it and enjoy it might soon be a thing of the past.

It was just a question of when, not of will it happen, that the notorious animal rights activist group PeTA would take a swing at former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Sarah’s pro hunting and pro firearm stance and the fact that she is very outspoken about it in public make her a prime target for animal rights and liberal anti gun fanatics.
