On February 11, former game show host Bob Barker donated $1 million towards the creation of an undergraduate animal ethics class at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.
Barker, a 1947 graduate of the University has been a long-time advocate of animal rights and spent several months coordinating the class structure with Patricia McEachern, an associate professor of French at the university.
This is not the first time Barker has pushed the animal rights agenda. Barker hosted the Miss USA pageant in 1987, and asked producers to stop using fur coats. He resigned from hosting the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants a year later when producers would not stop using fur coats as prizes.
The course will study animal ethics through religion, environment, criminology, philosophy, biology and law. It will be offered as a semester-long class beginning in either fall of 2009 or spring of 2010. Various pro-animal rights faculty are enthusiastic about teaching the new course.
When I read this news item I was quite surprised, then I googled the name “Bob Barker” clicked the “news” tab and see here, a whole string of news items came up about this ex TV show host and his involvement with the animal rights. Like all animal rights Barker too is a hypocrite. He seems to be quite fond of tanning studios. I wonder if he realizes that tanning equipment is tested on animals. But then again maybe he doesn’t care, like most animal rights, if it suits his own ego.

Thank you for brining up the animal rights agenda. Mr. Barker is a wonderful man who has a passion for helping animals. He has successfully got the message about controlling the pet population.
And for you to say that all animal rights activists are hypocrites just shows how ignorant you are of the majority of animal rights activists.

seriously, this shows what so many "hollywood types" will do with their money. I am for treating animals ethically and humanely, but I am sure that Bob's definition of that is a whole lot different than mine! And I don't want him (or anyone else) being able to define those concepts in a way to interfere with my rights.

I was not surprised by this but I am surprised that curriculum for a college is designed around a french professor and an ex tv game show host.

As for ryan's comments I don't visit websites of organizations that support demostic terrorism and kill more animals a year then any humane society could think of.

It is a shame that the majority of people do not differentiate between animal rights and animal welfare.
Ryan – well if you think that Mr Barker is a wonderful man then that is your opinion and you’re certainly entitled to it. Animal rights are hypocrites, especially the once that mention PETA as an example. This is the organization that kills more animals (3000 annually) –some of them are stolen from people’s backyards - than any other animal shelter in North America. Also torturing animals for promotional videos is not what caring about animals is about. Financially supporting animal rights terrorists that kill humans and animals alike is also something that I associate with other things than kindness.
Matt – Neither had I, but it should not have surprised me it seems half of the Hollywood crowd seems to support something they have no clue about. Money talks and PETA & Co pay celebrities handsomely for their “service”. I am quite convinced that Bob Barker made more money of PETA then the million he “donated”.
Kris – I am the same as you. It is a fact that I treat my dog a lot better than our neighbor who happens to be an animal rights activist. As for adding animal rights to school curriculums I am dead against it. Call me old fashion, but I am a firm believer that schools should only teach facts not opinions of any kind.

I am stunned how many people still fall for PETA and other animal rights groups despite the widespread information available about the true nature of these organizations that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with animal welfare.
Travis Erwin – You got that right. A real animal welfare organization such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) that has been around for ever and has done more for wildlife conservation than anyone else barely get heard about today.
