Book Review: Hunting The First State

© By Othmar Vohringer

“Hunting The First State” is not your ordinary hunting book. It’s a detailed guide to hunting in the state of Delaware. The book starts off with a short geographical description of Delaware and the hunting opportunities that state has to offer to the avid outdoors person. This is followed with six chapters on hunting tactics for whitetail deer, wild turkey, small game, migratory birds and waterfowl hunting.

Each chapter provides detailed advice and information on hunting methods, locations, tactics, game species and hunting regulations. This is without a doubt the most comprehensive book written about hunting in a single state that ever made it into my bookshelf. The title of the book may say “Delaware” but don’t think that the information provided only pertains to that state. The information is universal no matter where you hunt.

This is the type of book you want to take with you on a hunt as a reference guide or to read in the evening sitting at the campfire. As a promoter of the hunting sport I am particularly pleased to see that the author included a chapter on how to preserve our hunting tradition.

The author, Steven M. Kendus, is a lifelong resident of Delaware and has hunted just about every game species that state has to offer. He is as familiar with bowhunting, shotguns, rifles and muzzleloaders. I highly recommend this book to every hunter of all skill levels.

For more information on Hunting The First State or to purchase the book visit Steven M. Kendus’s website.
